Overview
Nardana Pureeswarar temple is located in Thalayalangadu, Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu state, India. The main God here is Nardana Pureeswarar Aadavallar and Amman (Thayar) is Balambikai. This temple is a 274 Sivalayam Koil. About the Temple
This is a small village. Temple is facing south. Lords Vinayaka, Viswanatha, Sthala Vinayaka, Muruga, Bhairava and the four Saivite Saints’ shrines are together with the shrine of the presiding deity. Ambika is in a separate shrine. The temple is linked with the Enkan temple. There are also other famous Shiva temples praised in the hymns around as Enkan, Kudavayil, Peruvelur, Manakkal and Kattoor.Theertham is situated in front of the temple. After take bath from the theertham and lighting lamp for lord will cure the skin disease.
Legend/Story
The insidious sages in Tharukavanam performed a yajna and made a wild elephant to obliterate Lord Shiva. Ruler essentially stripped the creature's skin and utilized it as a cover. He grasped a deer. Annihilated an evil spirit, Muyalagan by name and moved on his body in this spot. Sage Kabila loved Lord in this spot. This is likewise a position of significance in Tamil political history. Pandya ruler Nedunchezhian vanquished the other Tamil rulers and was regarded as Thalayalanganathu Cheru (war) Vendra (vanquished) Nedunchezhian – Conqueror of Thalayalanganam
Festivals
Thai New Moon day in January-February; Masi Shivrathri in February-March and Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Significance
Lord in the temple is a swayambumurthi. People pray here for cure from serious skin diseases as leprosy and for child boon. They bathe in the sacred spring and pray to Lord and Mother. Devotees perform abishek, special pujas and offer vastras to Lord and Mother. Devotees believe that their prayer to Lord in the temple would cure them of leprosy and also bless them with a child.
